Getting started with Jotform is simple. The sign-up options are prominently displayed on the homepage, allowing you to quickly register using your email, Google, or Microsoft account. 

I signed up using my Google account, which took roughly 10 seconds. No forced questionnaire that I had to fill out, as it just went straight into the platform. 

The first thing I saw was a prompt inviting me to create my first form, with the choice to either use a prebuilt template or start from scratch. If you’re not ready yet, you can just close the prompt and explore the dashboard.

When starting from scratch, Jotform gives you two layout styles: 

• Classic Form, which lays out all your questions on one page (good for things like jobsite checklists), or 
• Card Form, which presents questions one at a time, is better for short surveys or anything you want to keep simple. 

Jotform doesn’t offer a built-in walkthrough or interactive onboarding, so first-time users are pretty much on their own unless they sign up for a webinar. 

That said, there’s a deep library of help content — user guides, videos, and online courses. You can also submit support tickets, but keep in mind that dedicated human support is only available for Enterprise users. 

Free and paid plan users are limited to a chatbot and an AI assistant, which can be hit or miss depending on your question.

The Web App Experience

Jotform’s web app is clean, modern, and surprisingly flexible. I found using Jotform on a large screen easier, especially when building forms with lots of fields or logic. 

You don’t need an account to start testing the builder, but if you want to save or publish your form, all it takes is an email and password. 

Once logged in, you land in your Workspace, a centralized dashboard with all your forms, projects, and tools.

The layout is easy to navigate. Most of the screen is dedicated to your existing forms, and a big orange “+CREATE” button at the top left makes it clear where to begin. When you click it, you’ll see how much Jotform has expanded beyond basic online forms.

Form creation is still the core product, and it’s very flexible. You can start from scratch, choose from over 10,000 existing templates, import a PDF to convert, or even collect signatures (either through the template or a separate Jotform Sign feature).

The Import Form option is a nice bonus — just drop in the URL of any form published online, and Jotform does its best to replicate it. That said, it doesn’t support direct conversion from Word, Excel, or CSV files, which can be a bit of a hassle if you’re migrating forms from older systems.

Once inside the form builder, you can add widgets, payment fields, conditional logic, and third-party integrations, all with a few clicks. Everything is organized in menus that are easy to learn once you know what you’re looking for.

The Mobile Experience

Jotform’s mobile app does a great job of carrying over the functionality of the web version. You can access the same tools — form creation, submissions, approvals, reports, and even app building — without switching devices. 

That said, form building is easier on a larger screen. You can still create and edit forms on mobile, but the tighter space makes drag-and-drop feel a bit cramped if you’re working with complex layouts.

One thing to note is that the interface looks slightly different on mobile. The familiar left-hand menu from the web app isn’t visible by default. Instead, you’ll need to tap the floating “+” button to pull up your options. Other than that, navigating around is pretty smooth.

Most of the features work well, and performance was stable while I tested it. You can fill out forms, collect signatures, upload photos, and even manage submissions on the go. 

However, I did run into a glitch when I tried to open the chatbot support feature. No matter how many times I tapped it, it wouldn’t load. It’s a small thing, but if you’re relying on mobile and need quick help, it could be frustrating.

Jotform Key Features

Form Builder

Jotform’s form builder interface is clean, intuitive, and clutter-free. Everything you need is in the left-hand menu, and building a form is as simple as dragging and dropping fields into the center of the screen. 

Whether you’re collecting contact info, jobsite check-ins, or daily safety reports, the basics like name, phone number, email, signature, and address are all right there.

If you’re running surveys or checklists, you’ll find tools for single-choice, multiple-choice, rating scales, and even tables. All the elements feel familiar, which makes the whole process fast. There’s no need to watch a tutorial or click through a walkthrough.

I also liked Jotform’s widgets and automation. You can add payment processors, calculators, checklist counters, image sliders, social buttons, and PDF uploaders — you name it.

The widget library is huge, though it’s not organized into categories, which makes it a bit harder to browse. Luckily, there’s a search bar and a quick “info” icon next to each widget to help you figure out what it does before adding it.

Customization is solid, even on the free plan. With the Form Designer, you can change themes, colors, fonts, layout types (classic vs. card), and more. If you’re picky about branding, you’ll need to upgrade to remove the Jotform logo on live forms, but otherwise, you have a lot of design control out of the box.

Once your form is ready, the Settings tab lets you automate a bunch of things — confirmation emails, conditional logic, custom thank-you pages, integration with other tools, and even basic approval workflows. 

You can also turn any form into a legally binding e-signature document using Jotform Sign (more on this later). 

When it’s time to publish, sharing is quick. You can grab a link, send invites by email, or embed the form. Permissions can be adjusted, and if the form collects sensitive info, there’s an option to add a password for extra security.

AI Agents

Jotform’s AI Agents are like virtual assistants you can build and train to answer questions, collect data, or handle simple tasks. 

The builder is surprisingly detailed. You can customize everything from the agent’s appearance and tone of voice to its response length and default language. You can even train it using your own content, whether that’s PDFs, FAQ sheets, or an entire website.

What’s interesting is how well these agents integrate with forms. You can drop them into your jobsite check-in forms, quote requests, or support requests to help guide users or answer common questions. 

On top of that, Jotform gives you options to expand what the agent can do, like sending emails, scheduling appointments on Google Calendar, taking photos, and more. 

These agents can even operate across platforms, including Messenger, WhatsApp, SMS, and voice chat.

But like most AI chatbots today, it struggled with anything too specific or nuanced. It’s not quite ready to replace a real person, especially in cases where accuracy matters, but it can be useful for handling repetitive, low-stakes interactions.

Jotform Sign

Jotform Sign lets you build, send, and collect legally binding signatures on documents without printing, scanning, or chasing down paper copies. 

Unlike the basic Signature field in regular forms, Jotform Sign is eSIGN and UETA-compliant, meaning it’s built for legal use cases where digital signature standards matter. 

The process is simple: you can upload an existing PDF and convert it into an e-sign document with one click. From there, you drag in fillable fields like name, date, and signature, then assign them to different signers.

You can also build signature flows that route the document to multiple people in order, making it useful for internal approvals or multi-party agreements.

Moreover, you can add signers to an approval flow, trigger emails, and even sync signed documents automatically to cloud storage services like Google Drive, Dropbox, or OneDrive. 

Just a heads-up: if you disable Jotform Sign and go back to the regular Signature field in a form, it no longer meets any official e-signature standards. That older version might still hold up depending on your jurisdiction, but it’s not something you’d want to rely on for legally sensitive documents.

If you need to go beyond Jotform’s built-in tools, you can connect your forms to Google Analytics or Google Tag Manager for broader site and behavior tracking. But for most use cases, Jotform’s native reporting tools are more than enough.

I tested the Dropbox integration and had no issues linking my account. Once connected, I could route form submissions directly into a designated Dropbox folder. There’s also a checkbox that lets you convert form submissions into PDFs before they’re uploaded, which is useful if you need records that are easy to archive or print.

Jotform also offers integrations for payment processing (like Square, Stripe, and PayPal), project management tools (like Trello, Monday.com, and Asana), and communication platforms (like Slack and Microsoft Teams).
