Why Choose Workyard?
On the surface, Workyard and ClockShark seem identical. Although they are both dependable time-tracking apps for construction and field service businesses, Workyard outperforms ClockShark for its more robust and accurate GPS-tracking functionality.
Let’s explore the following compelling reasons why Workyard is head and shoulders above ClockShark.
1. Real-Time Employee Location and Mileage Tracking.
Workyard’s GPS tracking feature accurately tracks workers’ time and automatically tie each minute to their exact location in the field.
Workyard’s live map-based team view displays the real-time locations of all field workers currently on the clock. The GPS location data are always reliable (as long as the worker is clocked in), giving dispatchers the confidence they need to assign workers to the right locations every single time.
In addition, Workyard tracks mileage the moment the worker goes on driving mode, meticulously recording the travel time and distance covered between different locations visited during the shift. This granular view of worker’s productivity in the field not only provides reliable data for mileage reimbursements but also gives managers the baseline information they need to find shorter, more fuel-efficient routes for the team.
ClockShark also touts a GPS tracking feature, but it doesn’t have a live map on which managers can base their dispatching decisions. It pings employees’ locations every 15-20 minutes during the shift, but it can’t “ping on demand” to trace their immediate locations.
ClockShark also lacks mileage tracking, making it more difficult to find the best routes to get to the project locations faster. The absence of accurate data to rely on also opens the risk for companies paying for erroneous or inflated mileage reimbursements.
As a result, ClockShark isn’t as reliable in providing live and accurate employee location updates, which ultimately proves Workyard is the better dispatching software.
While ClockShark is a great all-around time-tracker for field workers, it’s not robust enough to guide dispatchers or help in route planning and optimization.
2. Geofence-Based Automatic Clock-In and Clock-In Restrictions.
Workyard allows users to set up geofences around specific job sites. These are basically virtual boundaries surrounding customers or project locations. Once activated, specific time clock rules can be configured.
For instance, Workyard’s mobile app can automatically clock workers in as soon as they set foot on the defined project locations. In addition, Workyard can also trim the workers’ clock-out times to the last geofenced site visited or exited. This ensures accurate time recording at all times, even when workers forget to clock in or out of work.
Workyard also has a toggle switch which you can click to activate geofencing clock-in restriction. This means workers can only clock in within the geofenced site, further beefing up Workyard’s capacity for accurate time tracking.
ClockShark also comes with a geofencing feature. Unfortunately, the functionality is extremely limited.
Unlike Workyard, ClockShark doesn’t offer automatic clock-in. Instead, it can only send reminders to employees to clock in or out upon arrival or departure from geofenced project locations.
In addition, ClockShark’s geofencing restriction lacks shark-like teeth (pun definitely intended). It allows field employees to clock in or out beyond the defined project location, offering nothing more than a simple alert to the admin, which basically defeats the purpose of using geofencing.
3. Detailed Labor Costing.
Workyard excels in detailed labor costing by automatically tracking the exact time spent on each task or job. This level of detail helps managers see exactly where labor hours are going and allows for more accurate job costing and bidding.
ClockShark does provide job costing features, but it isn’t as granular or automated as Workyard’s. In ClockShark, additional manual input might be required to categorize time, leading to potential time-tracking errors or omissions, especially in more complex projects with multiple tasks.
4. Advanced Reporting and Analytics.
Workyard’s reporting and analytics capabilities go beyond basic time tracking. It offers in-depth insights into employee productivity, job costing, and project profitability. Managers can create customized reports that focus on specific aspects of their operations, allowing for better decision-making.
In comparison, ClockShark provides standard reports, but they might lack the depth and customization options that Workyard offers. For businesses that rely heavily on data to drive decisions, Workyard’s advanced reporting tools can be a significant advantage.
5. Enhanced Communication Tools.
Workyard includes built-in communication tools that allow for seamless interaction between the field and office teams. This feature helps ensure that any changes in schedules, tasks, or job sites are communicated instantly, reducing delays and miscommunication.
ClockShark does offer communication features, but they are more basic and might not be as integrated with the time-tracking functionalities as in Workyard.
6. Better Support for Multi-Site Projects.
Workyard is specifically designed to handle complex, multi-site projects easily. It allows for easy management of time tracking across different sites and ensures that data from multiple locations is consolidated into a single, coherent report.
While ClockShark can manage multiple sites, its reports lack the same level of flexibility and detail. This makes Workyard a better choice for companies that frequently operate across several locations and need to maintain accurate and organized records.
In summary, Workyard’s precision in GPS tracking, geofencing, detailed labor costing, advanced reporting, enhanced communication tools, and robust support for multi-site projects collectively make it a stronger choice over ClockShark for businesses in the construction and field service industries.
