Highlights
Workyard offers valuable features for tracking trucks and drivers in specific industries, particularly construction and field services. It can be a worthwhile option if you need to track both your employees and vehicles.
GPS Tracking and Geofencing
Workyard leverages mobile devices’ GPS to track real-time employee locations and vehicle movements. It can also record precise addresses, driving routes, and arrival and departure times. These features can be used to track trucks and drivers without additional hardware.
Workyard also uses geofencing technology to detect site arrivals and departures and automatically clocks in employees when they reach specific job sites. When they exit geofence areas, Workyard also automatically clocks them out.
Workyard’s GPS tracker can record precise addresses and driving routes, including travel time and mileage.
Real-Time Visibility
Workyard records employees’ locations when they clock in and updates it every five minutes. Even when offline, their location data are stored on their mobile devices and are uploaded once they’re online.
You can see the live locations of drivers and their vehicles, allowing you to see their routes and determine their ETAs for better dispatching decisions, resource allocation, and workflow efficiency.
With real-time visibility, you can coordinate between onsite and offsite teams and communicate with clients more efficiently, enhancing overall project communication and adherence to timelines and budgets.
Mileage Tracking
Workyard automatically captures mileage and travel time, which is helpful for accurate expense calculation and reporting.
The app can detect when an employee enters driving mode when clocked in on the app and with location tracking enabled. It displays the routes taken and calculates their time card’s total mileage and driving time.
With accurate mileage data, you can better estimate travel times and fuel costs for different job sites, leading to more precise project planning and budgeting. GPS-verified mileage data can also help prevent expense fraud and inflated mileage claims.
Scheduling
Workyard also allows you to create detailed schedules and make changes on the go based on current truck and driver locations. Managers and team members can access Workyard’s scheduling and tasks features online or via the mobile app.
You can assign tasks and organize work by team members and projects. You can also break them down with checklists and documentation you can access in the field.
Once you’re done with the schedules, you can immediately send them, and employees can receive them in real time. You can also quickly make changes to schedules to accommodate last-minute updates.
Workyard’s scheduling tool also has built-in labor compliance to ensure employees will take their mandatory meal breaks.
Ensuring labor compliance is crucial for companies working in high-cost areas. For state-specific requirements, refer to our labor laws guides below:
- Texas Labor Laws
- Arizona Labor Laws
- Massachusetts Labor Laws
- Mississippi Labor Laws
- Kansas Labor Laws
- New York Labor Laws
Reporting
Workyard provides real-time labor cost reports and data analysis, which can help manage truck-related operations and costs. Its customizable reporting options include the following:
Job costs are automatically generated in real time as employees submit time cards, these reports break down job and labor costs by project, customer, employee, and cost code. They also consider hours worked, worker’s comp costs, and overtime rules.
Time reports show graphs of total regular and overtime hours and can be customized to capture specific metrics, such as time spent on different projects or tasks.
Progress reports allow you to export notes shared by employees in PDF and CSV format.
Project and task reports allow you to quickly assess daily, weekly, and monthly hours.
Reviews
Workyard has solid scores across three review platforms. It received its highest rating on Capterra from over 60 reviews. It also has a good App Store and Play Store score (both are 4.2) from hundreds of reviews.
Jeshua Pence thinks it’s a very user-friendly app, and its ability to automatically detect sites makes clocking in easier.
iOs Review:
Very user friendly ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
The clock-in process is super simple. Correcting times in real-time before the stamp makes it so much easier. Automatically detects the site when you arrive, so the app already has the right site readily available.
It’s five stars for Android user Ralph Milton, who likes the customer service team’s responsiveness and professionalism.
Google Play Review:
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I work for a great company, it’s called BM Marine construction. When there is an issue, and if you need a question answered, I’ve always gone to the Workyard app. You got an answer. They answer quickly, are very professional, and do not beat around the bush. They give you an answer that is accurate. So, at the end of the day, I love where I work and I love the things that they have in place to help us as employees to get the right information.
Desirea B., a construction company owner, gave Workyard a five-star rating for exceeding their expectations.
Capterra Review:
Best app for my company ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Workyard has exceeded my expectations in every way! I have been so busy that I haven’t spent enough time doing little things in it that I want to do, but I am blown away at how simple it was to implement this into our company and set up the guys, saving time and energy chasing down receipts, photos of the jobs, daily updates on job statuses, and timesheets. It is a timesaver and a blessing!

Blues Junkie thinks the app needs more work. His biggest complaint is the app closes while doing inspections, making them start all over again and wasting lots of time.
iOS Review:
Inspections reset before completion ⭐⭐⭐
Fleetio desktop is a great product, but the app needs work. My biggest complaint is that the inspections frequently close mid-inspection without saving progress. So I have to start over…sometimes multiple times for one inspection. The end result is that I often have to enter the data for an inspection after I have actually completed the process. The result is not only a lot of wasted time, but the report indicates that I completed my inspection in 15 seconds, which implies that the data is falsified.
Phil H. shared his frustration over the Android app and how he can’t upload photos when he can do so with no issues on the iOS app.
Google Play Review:
⭐⭐⭐
Why is it that I can’t upload pictures that I’ve already taken to the Fleetio issues on Android, but I can do so on iOS? It only lets me take new pictures on Android when I hit the add button, but on iOS, it asks me if I want to take a picture or pick one from the device library…I hate it when a company is more biased to support and have more basic needed features on one operating system versus another. Absolutely annoying…
It’s a five-star rating for Elizabeth D., an office administrator in a consumer services company. She commends the onboarding team, who was very thorough with the process.
Capterra Review:
Fleetio is amazing! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Fleetio is better than we even expected. Their onboarding team is amazing, very thorough and unlike any other onboard experience I’ve ever had. Our initial meetings with the sales team were informative and helpful in a way you didn’t feel they were pushing the software, but really felt like their platform would be helpful for our company. The onboarding schedule is incredibly helpful in taking it step by step so it doesn’t feel overwhelming and sets you up for success to get the most out of the software. I highly, highly recommend!!

iOS Review:
Would definitely recommend ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Tracking features have always been good. It’s nice to get both current info and past activity all from the app. The new version has a significant increase in speed.
But for this Google user, it’s only a one-star rating because of its frequent app crashes.

Reviews
Motive has solid scores across three major review platforms, earning its highest rating of 4.5 on Capterra for over 1,000 reviews. It also has a good rating on the App Store and Play Store, earning a 4.3 and a 4.2 score, respectively.
iOS user hguardiola07 likes how you can get real-time diagnostic problems and be able to fix truck issues on his own with the codes provided by the ELD device.
iOS Review:
Great service ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Motive is a great tool to have in your truck because you can track your truck anywhere and also get real-time diagnostic problems. And I have been able to do my own mechanic solution because the ELD device gives me the codes that the truck is having trouble with. Thank you, Motive.
Jerrod Landis gave the Android app a three-star rating for being a good visual tool for asset tracking.
Google Play Review:
⭐⭐⭐
This app should have customizable fleet options. Like adding or removing drivers from vehicles. Managing my fleet on the go would be helpful. But other than that, it’s a good visual tool to see where your assets are.
Whitney E. gave it a four-star rating for its ease of use and tracking capabilities. But pricing is a consideration, especially if you’ve only started your transportation company.
Capterra Review:
If you are new to operating and transportation, Motive will be your best friend! ⭐⭐⭐⭐
I am a huge fan of Motive (formerly Keeptruckin). The customer service is A+++! They are so quick to respond and help guide you or even your drivers to get set up. The app is very user-friendly and keeps you on track and organized. It can be a little expensive if you are starting your own transportation company. But this is well worth the money, as you will be glad this app does so much to keep you organized, especially when it is time to run IFTA reports.

Verizon Connect has satisfactory ratings for its iOS and Android apps. It earned its highest overall score of 4.7 on the App Store from over 4,000 reviews. Meanwhile, it received a 4.3 rating on the Play Store from over 1,000 reviews. There are fewer reviews on Capterra, where it got a 3.2 rating.
Check out some reviews below.
For iOS user Djormey@jjjojo, the Verizon Connect Reveal app always has inaccuracies with their driving miles, and there’s never a fix from technical support.
iOS Review:
Mileage inconsistency ⭐⭐⭐
Verizon Connect Reveal always has some issues. Ever since I started with them, I have been experiencing problems with getting updates from where the truck is, issues with the mileage driven by the driver, drivers having a different amount for driving miles, and in my back office, I get a different number of driving miles. Issues are never fixed, and all I have been emailed is that they are working on fixing it but never. Every time you call, you get a different answer. It’s all messed up. And I am stuck in a contract. It’s madness.
Quality Portable Rental Service gave it a one-star rating because the app doesn’t work, and they don’t get help from the relevant departments.
Google Play Review:
⭐
Crap….. app service and everything. Nothing works. You call and never get help.
Nathalie S., a licensed sales agent for an insurance company, gave it a five-star rating for how it lets them know where their vehicles are and how it secures their fleet.
Capterra Review:
Can’t go a day without Verizon Connect ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I absolutely love Verizon Connect. It is very sophisticated and every fleet department should have it. I love the security of knowing where my drivers are, how long they’ve been driving, and knowing that our vehicles are secure as well.

iOS user Ty.H. gave Timeero four stars because of its GPS tracking features. They also noted the great customer service they received.
iOS Review:
Great app, even better customer service! ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Timeero, the app itself, and their customer service overall are great! 4.5 stars in its current state. Rated this as this quality of life updates will streamline some time spent reporting-wise on the backend. As far as GPS tracking and including time tracking, this is one of the best combos out there. (Primarily what we utilize Timeero for).
Android user Christy C. only gives it a two-star rating because of Timeero’s app issues when uploading photos to work mileage.
Google Play Review:
⭐⭐
I’ve updated the app, uninstalled it, reinstalled, logged out, and logged back in, but I can’t seem to be able to upload photos. I can add photos from the camera and from the phone, and it says upload successful. However, I can’t see the photos. I’m required to upload photos for beginning and ending mileage for work. This app doesn’t work correctly. I need to be able to see the photos on the app, but I still can’t. Please fix it!!
For Michael C., owner of an information technology and services company, Timeero is worth five stars because of the app’s simplicity and ease of use. However, it can be improved with direct responses for integrations.
Capterra Review:
Amazing software that does what it says ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I’ve only had to contact support a couple of times for “training” on little things. Overall, everything about this software and its support team has been amazing.
Pros: Simplicity of the system and the cost. It makes our daily methods of scheduling appointments and tracking our mileage and time spent with clients extremely easy and streamlined.
Cons: Feature requests are based on popular votes it appears. Direct responses for integrations would be nice.

Our Scoring System Explained
Our 8-part scoring system was created to help you understand the potential value of any software we review simply and fairly.
We created it after reviewing dozens of software products, which we covered in depth, but without providing a direct and simple way for readers to compare products on their merits – without spending a lot of time looking through our articles for the information they needed to make an informed decision.
Every app we review will include Customer Support and Company scores, which we’ll explain in more detail below. Many of the factors reviewed in this article will also be consistent across most (or all) of our software reviews, with some differences:
The 8 factors assessed and their contribution to a product’s overall score may differ slightly from product to product based on various factors, such as the use case we’re reviewing for, the type of business these products are tailored to, and other considerations. However, all reviews will feature an 8-part score, weighted and combined to calculate each product’s overall score.
How We Score Software
All factors in our reviews are scored on a 10-point scale – technically 11 points – from 0-10. However, we only give products a score of 0 if it does not include an essential feature at all, and we try to avoid giving out 0 scores if a product can demonstrate any functionality in line with the specific factor being reviewed.
In general, the 0-10 range translates as:
- 9.0 – 10 – One of the absolute best in its category (amazing).
- 7.5 – 8.9 – Very good, but with some minor issues (very good).
- 6.0 – 7.4 – Mediocre performance with notable shortcomings (average).
- 3.0 – 5.9 – This feature is not ready for prime time (borderline).
- 1.0 – 2.9 – This feature actually makes its product worse (unacceptable).
- 0 – The product doesn’t include this important feature at all.
How We Calculate Overall Scores
The 8 factors reviewed are weighted based on an overall total of 100%:
- Ease of Use: 20%
- Time Tracking Accuracy: 20%
- Scheduling Features: 15%
- Job Tracking: 15%
- Integrations: 10%
- Customer Support: 15%
- Company: 5%
Methodology for Each Factor
Ease of Use
We evaluate a product’s ease of use based on three main considerations:
- How easy is it to set up this app?
- How easy is it for managers to use the backend dashboard?
- How easy is it for frontline workers to use the (mobile) app?
These three considerations cover the main ways you and your team would use the software being reviewed – when you first obtain it, when someone (a manager, executive, team leader, or similar role) needs to use it to manage people, money, data, and other things, and when workers you’re tracking use the app (usually a mobile version of the software designed for frontline and/or field team members) to clock in, clock out, record time worked, or address other day-to-day needs.
Time Tracking Accuracy
Every minute matters when you’re trying to control payroll costs. This factor accounts for various features and common needs in time-tracking apps, such as…
- How accurate or precise is its GPS tracking capability?
- How accurate – and how customizable – is its geofencing feature?
- How accurate is its travel and mileage tracking (if available)?
- Can it automatically clock workers in and out based on the above?
- Can you set and/or restrict rules for clocking in and out?
- Can the app continue tracking workers while offline?
- How easy is its mobile app and/or kiosk for frontline workers?
Scheduling Features
Many construction businesses prefer to manage as many aspects of employee labor activity as possible in a single app, which is why many time-tracking apps also include worker scheduling as a core feature.
When we consider a product’s scheduling features, we look at:
- Its dashboard customizability (daily, weekly, or monthly views).
- Its project-based scheduling and visibility.
- Its real-time updates and notifications for workers.
- Its real-time map views of worker locations for best-fit scheduling.
- Its recurring schedule (copies to subsequent weeks, etc.) functionality.
Job Tracking
This factor helps you understand if the software can also provide insight into specific projects, which is particularly handy when your business deals with many customers or clients who generally need shorter-term work. Effective job tracking typically also includes accurate job costing functionality for construction companies.
We assess several things when calculating a product’s job tracking score:
- Its project-based tracking for multiple projects per day/week/etc.
- Its ability to track multiple / many projects simultaneously.
- Its use of (and your ability to customize) construction cost codes.
- Any built-in job costing views.
- Any integrations for cost coding (QuickBooks etc.)
Integrations
No business can operate on a single app, which is why integrations with other apps and tools are such important aspects of modern business software.
To calculate a product’s integration score, we’ll examine:
- How many native integrations (the simplest connection) does it offer?
- How effective and easy-to-use are its integrations with payroll software?
- Does it have robust data import and export features?
Customer Support
Learning how to use a new app can be frustrating, even if it’s meant to be the most user-friendly app around. That’s why great customer support is so essential when considering which time-tracking app to use.
Customer support scores are calculated based on:
- Live support channels available (phone, email, chat, etc.).
- Live support hours (business hours only, 24/7, etc.).
- The strength of the product’s online help center and/or FAQs.
- What other users say about support in online reviews.
Company
A great company with a highly customer-friendly approach can often make up for shortcomings in their software products – at least up to a point.
When assessing this score, we’ll examine:
- Transparency (easy-to-find pricing, etc.)
- Trial period (duration, feature availability, credit card requirements, etc.).
- Subscription flexibility (contracts, required durations, etc.).
- Ease of cancellation or pausing subscriptions.
- Customer perceptions (online product reviews).
- Website (a minor consideration, but great companies tend to have great websites).
Any questions about our scoring system? Have any suggestions on how we could make it even better? Click here to send us your feedback – we’d love to hear from you!

Together, these benefits lead to significant savings over time.
