Three to four taps: open the app, clock in, select the job, work. Clock out when you leave. That is the target. If your app requires entering a cost code, selecting a sub-trade, or navigating more than two screens before the worker is clocked in, you will see abandonment by week two.

Run parallel systems for exactly two weeks. Paper stays available as a fallback, but the app is the primary method from day one. Two weeks is long enough to catch recurring issues without letting paper become the default again.
If you have no cell signal on a particular site, offline mode in the app is the answer, not continued paper. If a worker actively refuses to use the app after the parallel period, that is a management conversation, not a technical problem.

Two options. First, a job site iPad kiosk. Workyard’s kiosk mode lets workers clock in at a shared device without a personal phone. Second, supervisor-led clock-in lets a foreman clock in the whole crew from their phone.
Both are built for the reality that not every field worker carries or uses a smartphone. Do not require personal device use without checking your jurisdiction’s rules on employer-required apps on personal devices.
Say this directly: GPS only runs when you’re clocked in. It stops the moment you clock out. We cannot see where you go after work, on weekends, or during lunch if you leave the site.
