Workyard Launches Time Assistant to Turn Accurate Time Into Payroll-Ready Data Faster

SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 15, 2026 — Workyard launched Time Assistant in July and significantly expanded its capabilities in August, giving construction payroll teams a faster way to complete the final review before payroll. Built directly into Workyard’s Time Tracking product, Time Assistant lets admins use plain English to investigate time across an entire pay period, surface records that need attention and request changes. It proposes the updates for review, while keeping admins in control: nothing is saved until they approve it.

Construction payroll has traditionally required hours of manual work to collect time, chase missing information, check records and make corrections before payroll can run. Workyard already automates much of that process through GPS-verified time tracking, geofencing and other tools designed to capture accurate time as work happens. Time Assistant is designed to address the remaining step: the final review of time cards before making that data payroll ready.

Instead of scanning time cards one by one, admins can ask questions across the entire pay period and quickly focus on the records that require attention. They can investigate payroll exceptions, review potential compliance issues and request corrections without manually opening and editing each affected record.

For example, an admin could ask Time Assistant to identify workers who may be owed meal-break premiums, review mileage or drive-time records that need attention, or find hours that should be allocated to a different project or cost code. The assistant returns the relevant records together, allowing the admin to review the result and approve any proposed changes as a batch.

Recent updates also let project managers reallocate hours across projects and cost codes in bulk. A task that previously required finding each affected time card and updating records individually can now be requested in a single conversation, reviewed across the affected records and approved before anything is saved.

Unlike AI assistants designed primarily to answer questions or summarize data, Time Assistant can move from investigation to action. An admin can ask a question about the pay period, identify the affected records, request a correction and review the proposed changes within the same workflow.

The approach shifts payroll preparation away from reviewing every record toward reviewing the exceptions that actually need attention. For contractors managing large field teams across multiple job sites, that can reduce the amount of repetitive work required between the end of a pay period and payroll processing.
