What Time Can Construction Start in North Carolina?

Construction start times in North Carolina vary by city. Most allow work from 7 a.m.–6 p.m. on weekdays. Asheville permits work until 7 p.m. with a permit, Charlotte bans construction noise from 9 p.m.–7 a.m., and Raleigh allows work until 8:30 p.m. in business and residential areas.

General Construction Hours: Construction is generally permitted from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays.

Asheville: Construction activity performed with a permit may not occur outside the hours of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday without an after-hours permit.

Charlotte: The operation of construction machinery is not allowed between the hours of 9 p.m. and 7 a.m.

North Topsail Beach: The erection, excavation, demolition, alteration, or repair of any building is permitted between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. on weekdays, 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Saturdays, and 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Sundays.

Raleigh: Standard work hours are between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. The erection, demolition, alteration or repair of any building or other structure in a residential or business district is permitted between 7 a.m. and 8:30 p.m.

Southport: Construction can begin at 7 a.m.
